Following his honours law degree at London University LLB (extern) and articled clerkship, the author qualified as a solicitor in 1973. Later he obtained a diploma in Education Law from Buckingham University.
His first book describes his varied life up to his present age of seventy, his second a novel.

His early life in an RAF nissen hut in Lytham St Annes; hard times at boarding schools; an archaeological dig at Milton Keynes; lengthy train travel to Istanbul; smallpox requiring departure from Turkey to Cyprus military base, thence by ship to Egypt, Port Alexandria and military train to Luxor, in a country eerily awaiting developments after the destruction of three jumbo jets.
He also describes his time in New York, Washington and Philadelphia, meeting his wife while hitch hiking in Ireland; working for two legal firms and for the catholic church, both positive as the latter included the successful visit to the UK by Pope John Paul II, but negative as it involved appalling child protection cases.
Angela having decided to set out to take on a solicitor’s training contract encountered many trials and tribulations.
Finding a training contract was the first, then seeking affordable accommodation. She nearly gave up the law when one of her first tasks was to wash the senior partner’s car. Her salary seemed abysmally low. Yet work began to improve, especially after she met another likeable trainee David, at the Employment Appeal Tribunal in London, although his salary was rather higher than hers, as his firm had offices both in Stroud where he was based but also in the City of London. Her work began to become much more interesting including as it did, a sea plane flight to Vancouver Island, an Italian vineyard, some magistrates court work in Sussex, a difficult Supreme Court case in London and several very sad child abuse matters. Out of the office, the local pub was great place to unwind; she was persuaded to run the London Marathon; watched Wimbledon Tennis and commiserated with a young colleague whose girlfriend appeared to have left him. She became friendly with one of the daughters of an English duke and with a girlfriend, went on an overnight couchette pilgrimage train with disabled children.
Whilst on a family holiday, the children notice two suspicious characters that just keep turning up.
Things then take a strange turn, when, whilst out playing, the children go on to discover several guns and a bundle of euros stashed in a cavern.
Local police take the matter up until James, having spoken with his his MI6 contact, finds out that the two men, the guns and the euros all have links to ISIS, and potentially him.
The next family holiday turns out to be the unfurling of an ISIS plan, and James and his family are right in the middle of it…
