Description

They were just oil workers—until they uncovered Iran’s deadliest secret.

When three engineers disappear from a remote Iranian drilling site, whispers of CIA involvement ignite a diplomatic firestorm. But what they stumbled upon wasn’t intelligence—it was the cornerstone of a covert nuclear fusion program, funded by shadow players in Moscow and Beijing.

One survives. Two don’t.

As global tensions mount, Jack Copeland—CIA black operations commander—is thrust into the eye of a political hurricane. What begins as a rescue mission spirals into a high-stakes campaign of sabotage, betrayal, and precision strikes across the Middle East. Behind the chaos, a network of rogue generals, foreign ministers, and silent financiers are pushing the world to the brink.

From Tehran’s back alleys to NATO war rooms and the decks of U.S. warships poised for launch, the clock is ticking. One strike could start a war. One man might stop it.

Precision. Consequence. Reprisal.
This is the new face of shadow warfare.

1 review for Deep Cover by Ethan Ross

  1. Shieldcrest

Deep Cover is another hard-hitting, standout espionage thriller, and Ethan Ross proves himself a master of the genre. This tense and pacy novel is set against the high-stakes backdrop of an Iranian oil refinery and it follows three deep-cover CIA operatives when their mission spirals into a riveting race for survival.
Ross’s writing is, as always, controlled, sharp, and tense. He conjures vivid settings and credible, sympathetic protagonists, particularly among the operatives, and builds relentless tension throughout. But he has a special gift in that he never once loses grip of a complex and scaling narrative.
His ability to weave together political intrigue, psychological tension, and field operations — while also capturing the human connections between characters — is genuinely impressive. The pacing is tight, the stakes feel real, and every scene rings with authenticity.
The characterisation is strong too. Each of the three agents – Travers, Dalton, and Brody – is distinct, fully realised, and credible. The pressure they face feels real, and the fear and tension are palpable once they are captured.
Ross never forgets his supporting characters. Supporting characters like Copeland and his team, Elisabeth Young, and key government officials are so well drawn that they feel familiar by now.
Ethan Ross has a global reach and scope to his work, from the unnerving quiet of a black site to the chaos of a media leak or military flashpoint, every moment lands with cinematic force. Ross also demonstrates a deep, confident understanding of international relations, covert geopolitics, and the subtle machinery of global power. His handling of Iranian settings, inter-agency tensions, and diplomatic pressure points shows more than just research—it shows insight. He captures not only what these conflicts look like, but how they unfold behind the scenes. All this skill lends the story a level of credibility that elevates it beyond typical thrillers.
His prose is commanding. He retains control of every aspect, and describes each scene in immaculate, clear, shining detail so that it feels as if the reader is there. His books would translate perfectly to screen, because there is that immediacy, that cinematic feel, and the unique sense of insight Ross offers his reader, in each sequence. He commands both detail and drama.
Fans of Frederick Forsythe, Graham Greene or Ludlum will find this an unforgettable read. Ethan Ross is a name to watch in spy fiction.
